MCM Comic Con Ireland 2017

Another year another MCM Comic Con

Like most Comic Con fans I cannot wait for this time of year to arrive, conventions season is as good as Christmas to us geeks, nerds, fans or whatever you like to call us and MCM Ireland Comic Con is one of my favourites.

I had decided to attend on a Saturday which, as you would expect, was probably the busiest day of the two day event but thankfully queues to get In were virtually non-existent, as usual it was held at the RDS which meant there was plenty of space to walk around.

On entering you are always immediately hit by a plethora of merchandise stalls selling everything from Funko Pops to tasty treats from Japan and you will often find yourself visiting this area a number of times before settling on that item you have looked at for the tenth time and it should be noted it does pay to shop around as I picked up two nice wonder woman metals for just €15 a nice little bargain I thought.

Next, it’s always nice to visit the guest area early especially if you intend on getting any autographs as by lunch time the queues are definitely longer.  Some of the guest attending were Sam Jones (Flash Gordon), Summer Glau (Firefly, Alphas), Nell Tiger Free (Game of Thrones), Veronica Taylor (Pokemon), Manu Bennett (Arrow), Austin St John, Billy Granston, Karan Ashely, Walter Emanuel Jones, David J Fielding (Power Rangers) and more with guests also taking part on panels in the theatre which is always a great way to find out a little bit more about your favourite character or show as fans are given the chance to ask questions – always a fun place, I particularly enjoyed Nell Tiger Free’s chat as she came across extremely friendly even if a little nervous at times but somehow that just made her all the more genuine.

MCM is much more than a Comic Con and if anything these days it’s more of an entertainment event with a special area for kids offering face painting and games galore not to mention for fans of wrestling you had some of that going on, as well even Lightning from the Disney’s Cars movie made an appearance; all in all for a family day out this is one of the best.

Of Course no Comic Con is complete without cosplayers and they were in out in abundance with Batman, Spiderman, Iron Man and Super Man all doing the rounds and I have to mention a fabulous looking group of DC Bombshells who all just looked amazing but, in truth there was so much wonderful cosplay on show that if I was to list them all we would be here all day instead I would just like to say thank you to these guys and they really do add to these type of events and always smiling even after being asked for a photo for the hundredth time.

So ends another MCM Ireland Comic Con was it good? Yes, it’s always good and I would highly recommend for families looking to visit an event like this for the first time, were there any negatives?  For me I would love to see some comic artists in attendance such as Babs Tarr or Adi Granov and definitely would like to see more British TV focused guests but all in all it’s still a very good show and one of the friendliest I have attended.
